Sam Darnold MIN QBVikings' Sam Darnold: Vikings won't rush to name starting QB
10h agoThe Vikings could begin the season with Darnold as the team's starting quarterback despite taking J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, ESPN reports. "We're not going to rush his development," said general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. "We're just going to do what's best for the Vikings in the short and long term."
Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings as a short-term veteran starter or backup. It's hard to handicap when McCarthy may take over the starting job this soon after the draft, but it's notable the Vikings are trying to reduce expectations. Expect the quarterback battle for the Week 1 starting job to commence this summer. Still, odds are Darnold will only be the starter for a few weeks at most if McCarthy is healthy and making progress.

12h agoKnox signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent Saturday.
After four years at Arkansas, Knox transferred to South Carolina for his fifth-year senior season. He compiled a 37-312-2 receiving line for the Gamecocks. He switched positions from wide receiver to tight end in 2021. Knox joins a tight end room that includes T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt and Nick Muse in Minnesota.

13h agoGriffin signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent Saturday.
"Tulu" stands at 5-foot-10 and 181 pounds and ran a 4.43 forty at the combine after leading Mississippi State in receiving with a 50-658-4 line as a senior. His main selling point for the Raiders could be his returner skills after he showed some electricity with the ball in his hands during college.

13h agoThe Raiders signed Bradley as an undrafted free agent Saturday.
Bradley has good size at 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds and spent the final two years of his college career at South Alabama following four years in Toledo's program. He threw for 5,996 yards at South Alabama, amassing 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. In Las Vegas, Bradley slides in at the bottom of the depth chart behind Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell and Anthony Brown.

Edwards was just a one-year starter at Georgia and overall functioned as part of a backfield committee. He concluded his four-year collegiate career with a 391-2,082-24 rushing line. Edwards is strong in pass-protection and joins a Pittsburgh backfield that is led by Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren and newcomer Cordarrelle Patterson.

14h agoWatson is slated to sign with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Watson spent five years at Old Dominion before transferring to Memphis for his super-senior season. He led the Tigers in rushing with 192-1,152-14 on the ground and added 53-480-3 as a receiver, earning All-AAC honors. Watson joins a crowded Denver backfield depth chart that includes Javonte Williams, Samaje Perine, Jaleel McLaughlin and fifth-round rookie Audric Estime.

7m agoDalbec went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 17-0 win over the Cubs.
Dalbec's bat, like many others in the lineup, came alive in the blowout win. His season-opening struggles are epic -- zero hits in his first 19 at-bats and one in the first 32 -- but the corner infielder now has a four-game hit streak (5-for-15). However it's too late save his job as the team's primary fill-in at first base while Triston Casas (ribs, 60-day IL) is sidelined. The Red Sox acquired Garrett Cooper from the Cubs on Saturday, and he is expected to get the bulk of the starts at first base until Casas is ready. Cooper is expected to be activated in time for Tuesday's series opener against the Giants.

The lefty-hitting Florial finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games, with two of those absences coming against right-handed pitching. Florial appeared to have recently supplanted Ramon Laureano for a regular spot in the lineup as the Guardians' top option at designated hitter, but manager Stephen Vogt looks like he may just prefer to have a number of different players rotate at that spot.

16m agoThe Red Sox expect Cooper to be activated for Tuesday's series opener against the Giants, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
The Red Sox acquired Cooper from the Cubs for cash considerations on Saturday. Boston manager Alex Cora didn't immediately reveal how Cooper will be deployed, but it sounds like the newly acquired first baseman will get the bulk of starts. "Obviously, he's a guy that can put together a good at-bat," Cora said. "He can hit lefties and righties. He's a good defender. We do believe he's going to help us out." Cooper should move immediately to the top of the depth chart.

4m agoBanchero racked up nine points (4-14 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal across 29 minutes during Saturday's 112-89 victory over the Cavaliers in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Banchero struggled to find an offensive rhythm and scored his fewest points since Nov. 29, but the Magic still evened the series at 2-2. The budding superstar averaged 25.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.0 steals in 37.0 minutes over the first three matchups of the opening-round series and scored in single digits only twice during the regular season.

Bojan Bogdanovic NY SFKnicks' Bojan Bogdanovic: Intends to play with wrist injury
12m agoBogdanovic recently underwent an MRI that showed ligament damage in his left wrist but is expected to play through the issue during the postseason, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
Bogdanovic's left wrist has been taped throughout the postseason, and he's occasionally mentioned dealing with pain. However, the veteran has not appeared on the Knicks' injury report since the playoffs started, which isn't expected to change moving forward. Bogdanovic has scored in double figures just once through three games against Philadelphia and is shooting only 29.2 percent from the field. Scotto relays that Bogdanovic may need surgery on his wrist this offseason.

19m agoHarris racked up three points (1-2 FG, 1-2 3Pt), two rebounds, one assist and one steal over 24 minutes during Saturday's 112-89 win over Cleveland in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
After playing 33 and 34 minutes, respectively, during the first two games of the opening-round series -- both losses in Cleveland, Harris played 21 and 24 minutes during the two wins in Orlando. Outside of a 14-point outing in Game 2, Harris has been a non-factor offensively, going just 1-for-11 from the field. Defensively, he has six steals through four games and at least one swipe in each matchup.

22m agoSuggs registered 12 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes during Saturday's 112-89 win over the Cavaliers in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Suggs exploded for 24 points (9-11 FG) during Orlando's Game 3 win and was productive again in Game 4 as the Magic evened the series at 2-2. However, he committed seven turnovers Saturday after coughing the ball up only three times over the prior three matchups. Despite inconsistent production to start the postseason, Suggs has been one of the Magic's top overall producers, averaging 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 29.8 minutes across four games.

25m agoWagner finished Saturday's 112-89 win over Cleveland in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with 34 points (13-17 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 6-7 FT), 13 rebounds, four assists and one block in 40 minutes.
Wagner didn't score more than 18 points through the first three matchups of the opening-round series but exploded for a game-high 34 in Game 4 and was incredibly efficient. His 34 points marked his most since Feb. 8, and his 13 rebounds were a career high. Wagner struggled mightily with his three-point shot to end the regular season, but he's made at least two triples in three of four postseason games thus far.

Niang has totaled just 14 points and six rebounds through Clevleand's first four postseason games. He's averaging 18.5 minutes per game.

Charlie Lindgren WAS GCapitals' Charlie Lindgren: First off ahead of Game 4
14m agoLindgren was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports, indicating he will patrol the home crease Sunday in Game 4 versus the Rangers.
Lindgren has lost three straight outings in the postseason, surrendering 11 goals on 81 shots for an .864 save percentage. The Capitals need a victory in Game 4 to avoid being swept in the first round by the Rangers.

Brandon Montour FLA DPanthers' Brandon Montour: Heating up in playoffs
1h agoMontour registered an assist and four blocked shots versus the Lightning in Game 4 on Saturday, but it still wasn't enough, as the Panthers suffered a 6-3 loss.
After being held without a point in the first two games of the conference quarterfinals, Montour stacked a goal and two helpers between Game 3 and Game 4. The eighth-year defenseman has always had a high ceiling in terms of offensive potential, but there had been a fair number of detractors until Montour's eye-popping 73-point campaign surfaced in 2022-23. He had offseason shoulder surgery and missed the first 16 games of the recently completed regular season, leveling back down to a half-point-per game average. In this playoff series, Montour is averaging 23:26 of ice time with 2:27 on the man advantage. This Panthers team will have another crack at eliminating the Lightning at home for Game 5 on Monday.

1h agoPoint scored a goal and added two assists, one on the power play, during Game 4's 6-3 win over the Panthers on Saturday.
The 28-year-old center had a hand in both of Steven Stamkos' tallies and fired home his own goal late in the first period to give Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead. Point has two goals and five points through the series' first four games, and the Bolts may need another strong performance from him in Game 5 on Monday to avoid elimination.

1h agoKucherov recorded three assists, one on the power play, in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Panthers in Game 4.
Two of the helpers came in the third period as the Lightning put the game away. Kucherov is still looking for his first goal of the postseason, but he's found the scoresheet in all four contests so far while collecting six assists. He may need to come up big again in Game 5 on Monday if Tampa Bay is going to avoid elimination again.

After setting up Steven Stamkos for the game's opening tally midway through the first period, Hagel followed with his own a few minutes later before giving the Lightning a 4-1 lead in the second. The 25-year-old had managed only one goal and zero assists through the first three games of the series, and his offensive eruption helped Tampa Bay avoid a first-round sweep. Hagel will look to stay locked in Monday for Game 5.

Mikhail Sergachev TB DLightning's Mikhail Sergachev: Notches helper in return
2h agoSergachev (leg) picked up an assist and added two blocked shots and a hit in 17:03 of ice time during Game 4's 6-3 win over the Panthers on Saturday.
Seeing his first game action since fracturing his left leg in multiple places Feb. 7, Sergachev's surprising and early return gave the Lightning an emotional boost and helped them avoid getting swept out of the first round. The 25-year-old blueliner didn't see his usual workload, but that's to be expected given his long layoff. He'll likely see similar ice time Monday in Game 5.
