Jordan Travis 2005 QBJets' Jordan Travis: Lands with Jets
2m agoThe Jets selected Travis in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 171st overall.
If not for a severe leg injury suffered late in his senior year, Travis may have heard his name called much earlier than the end of the fifth. He was a dynamic, longtime starter at Florida State who progressed each season. He never threw more than six interceptions in any season and left Tallahassee with 65 passing touchdowns in 42 games. He had strong rushing ability that will hopefully return when he's recovered, rushing for 1,682 yards and 28 touchdowns. Tyrod Taylor gives the Jets immediate cover if Aaron Rodgers is to miss any time, but Travis projects as an eventual backup with little likelihood to become a starter.

Javon Solomon 2005 LBBills' Javon Solomon: Buffalo adds Round 5 pass rusher
4m agoThe Bills selected Solomon in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 168th overall.
Solomon might be a longshot as a short late-round pick out of a small school, but the Troy product was a dominant producer in college and might have enough athleticism to overcome the limitations of his build (6-foot-1, 246 pounds). Solomon's production implies he has innate skill as a disruptor (42.5 tackles for loss and 31.5 sacks in his last 40 games), and his athletic testing at the 2024 NFL Combine gives people reason to think Solomon's skill could translate to the NFL level (4.72-second 40-yard dash, 37-inch vertical). He'll need to climb the Buffalo depth chart before earning playing time, but Solomon seems to have the tools to do it.

9m agoThe Packers selected Oladapo in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 169th overall.
Oladapo becomes the third safety selected by the Packers in the past three rounds. While the starting safety opposite the newly signed Xavier McKinney projected as an obvious need for Green Bay, the team did have intriguing 2023 seventh-round pick Anthony Johnson also in the fold, so this level of aggressiveness is noteworthy especially with name-value free agents still out on the market. A three-year starter at Oregon State, the 6-foot-2, 221 pound Oladapo projects more as a thumping safety at the NFL level and will add value in special teams almost immediately.

Keilan Robinson 2005 RBJaguars' Keilan Robinson: Duval bound
12m agoThe Jaguars selected Robinson in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 167th overall.
Robinson never got his chance to shine as a running back in college whether it was at Alabama or Texas as he was stuck behind the likes of Najee Harris, Bijan Robinson or Jonathon Brooks. He had just 82 career carries for 542 yards and six touchdowns to go with 35 grabs for 332 yards and three scores on 43 targets. That's solid efficiency, but there's no proof that it would hold up over a bigger sample. Where Robinson shines is in the return game, and that will likely be his meal ticket in Jacksonville especially with the new return rules. Robinson ran a kick back for a touchdown in 2023 and was clocked with a 4.42 in the 40 at the combine. He's unlikely to be much of a fantasy factor barring significant attrition in the Jags' backfield. And the addition of Devin Duvernay this offseason complicates his path to being used in the return game.

Rasheen Ali 2005 RBRavens' Rasheen Ali: Joins Baltimore backfield
16m agoThe Ravens selected Ali (biceps) in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 165th overall.
Ali is an intriguing prospect, as he had multiple 1,000-yard seasons with Marshall including freshman All-American honors back in 2021 following a season in which he compiled 1,742 total yards and 24 touchdowns. Sandwiched between the 1,000-yard campaigns, Ali missed 10 games after injuring his MCL during the 2022 campaign and also injured his biceps during the Senior Bowl, thus forcing him to miss all the subsequent testing. It's hard to compile the type of numbers Ali did even in a lesser competitive landscape as a "poor" athlete, which means the Ravens might have struck gold yet again on an electric backfield option in the later rounds.

Jaylin Simpson 2005 SColts' Jaylin Simpson: Fifth-round target for Indy
22m agoThe Colts selected Simpson in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 164th overall.
Simpson is listed as a safety but at 6-feet, 179 pounds he's tiny even by cornerback standards. With that said, the Auburn product also boasts athletic testing that grades highly by cornerback standards. Simpson's 4.45-second 40-yard dash and 39.5-inch vertical will definitely play at corner, and the same is true of his outstanding reach (32 and 3/8-inch arms). Perhaps Simpson is a bit of a project for the Colts, but these are raw materials that can clearly refine into something useful with a little luck.

6m agoIbanez (hamstring) will start at second base for Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Ibanez has played two games in Triple-A as part of his rehab assignment, going 3-for-6 with two doubles and one RBI over that span. If all goes well in that stint, Ibanez could be available for the Tigers' next series against the Cardinals starting Monday.

Carson Kelly DET CTigers' Carson Kelly: Won't start, but available Saturday

Kelly was scratched ahead of Friday's game against Kansas City due to left ribcage soreness. While Kelly won't start Saturday, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that the backup catcher is available for the contest, per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic.

Noda will begin Saturday's game in the dugout with the Orioles sending out southpaw Cole Irvin. It marks the third game in a row that Noda hasn't started, though he did pinch hit in each of the Athletics' last two games. Abraham Toro will start at first base Saturday and bat fifth.

36m agoManager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Steele (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Counsell didn't say how many starts the Cubs want Steele to make in the minors, but the 28-year-old southpaw is likely in for multiple rehab outings after sitting out roughly a month due to a strained left hamstring. Assuming his assignment goes smoothly, Steele will likely return to Chicago's rotation toward the middle of May.

Hurt has been on the injured list since April 20 due to right shoulder inflammation, and his move to the 60-day IL ensures he will be out until at least mid-June. Nabil Crismatt was selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Hurt's place on the 40-man roster.

3h agoLillard suffered a strained Achilles in Friday's loss to the Pacers and there is serious doubt over his availability for Game 4 on Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Lillard was able to return to Game 3 after suffering the injury and finished the contest with 28 points (6-20 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 12-12 FT), eight assists, three steals and one rebound over 45 minutes. Final confirmation on his status Sunday will presumably come closer to game time. AJ Green, Andre Jackson and Malik Beasley would all be candidates to see increased minutes alongside Patrick Beverley in the backcourt should Lillard indeed need to sit out.

Robinson was seen wearing a walking boot on his sprained left ankle following an early exit in Thursday's 125-114 loss to the 76ers. He had accumulated two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 FT) and seven rebounds across 12 minutes before leaving. His absence from Saturdays' practice is not a good sign for his status for Sunday's Game 4, but the team has not ruled the big man out. If he ultimately does not get the green light, Precious Achiuwa figures to serve as the primary backup behind Isaiah Hartenstein.

Booker finished just two assists away from recording a double-double in Game 3, and the star guard will need to be at his best Sunday if the Suns want to avoid getting swept in the first round. Booker's scoring numbers have increased with each passing game in the series, though this was the first time he surpassed the 20-point plateau.

Beal led the Suns in scoring Friday, but as has been the case throughout the series, Phoenix simply hasn't been able to hang on with the Timberwolves throughout an entire game, which explains the 0-3 deficit the Suns are currently in right now. This was the first team Beal surpassed the 15-point mark in the series, and the veteran guard will need to keep the momentum going for Game 4 on Sunday if the Suns want to avoid getting swept in the first round.

Durant bounced back from a subpar showing in Game 2, at least for his lofty standards, and he had a strong showing in Game 3, but once again, his contributions were not enough to lift the Suns to victory as Phoenix fell into an 0-3 deficit. Durant will need to be at his best if the Suns want to avoid the sweep in Game 4 on Sunday. He's averaging 24.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in the series.

6m agoForbort (undisclosed) was activated from long-term injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.
Forbort sat out the final 20 games of the regular season and Boston's first three playoff contests. He will be an option to play in Game 4 against Toronto on Saturday, but it wouldn't be surprising if he served as a healthy scratch. The 32-year-old blueliner earned four assists, 22 shots on goal, 65 blocked shots and 68 hits in 35 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.

Bobrovsky has been solid in net, as the Panthers have taken a 3-0 stranglehold on the best-of-seven series. Bobrovsky has allowed seven goals on 71 shots (.901 save percentage) against the Lightning in the opening round. Bobrovsky had a stellar regular season, going 37-22-6 with a 2.42 GAA and a .921 save percentage. The Lightning have to come out strong in Game 4, as they are on the verge of elimination.

Thompson has helped Vegas win the opening two games of the first-round series by stopping 46 of 50 shots (.920 save percentage). That's part of a larger hot streak in which he's posted a 2.12 GAA and a .925 save percentage over his past 13 appearances. Dallas ranked third offensively in the regular season with 3.59 goals per contest, so the Stars shouldn't be taken lightly even after being defeated by Vegas twice.

2h agoPer Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News, Marchment (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision against Vegas on Saturday in Game 3, according to coach Peter DeBoer.
Marchment was injured in the third period Wednesday and did not return. Marchment set career highs in goals (22) and assists (31) over 81 regular-season contests in 2023-24. Should he be unable to go, Mavrik Bourque could enter the lineup.

Faksa has yet to record a point in the playoffs after posting seven goals and 19 points in the regular season. If Faksa ultimately can't suit up, Ty Dellandrea would likely slot into the lineup in a bottom-six role.
