2m agoThe Cowboys selected Thomas in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 233rd overall.
Thomas was a two-year starting left tackle at Louisiana, but it's possible the Cowboys could opt to move him to guard as well. A physical blocker who relishes the point of contact, the 22-year-old seems to match Dallas' tonal scheme along the offensive line perfectly, and at minimum Thomas should provide depth at multiple positions up front.

Jaheim Bell 2005 TEPatriots' Jaheim Bell: Interesting pick for Pats
2m agoThe Patriots selected Bell in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 231st overall.
This is a pick that Bill Belichick would have made in New England. Bell is a very interesting prospect with a "tweener" type of frame but legitimate athleticism that could get him on the field in a variety of ways. He began his career at South Carolina where he played tight end but also had a role in the run game. From 2021 to 2022, Bell caught 55 of 73 targets for 728 yards and seven touchdowns while tallying 80 rushes for 301 yards and three scores. He transferred to Florida State and continued to produce as a pass-catcher (39-503-2) but the 'Noles did not use him in the run game. At 6-foot-2 and 241, there's not a conventional role for him in an offense so New England will have to get creative. Having 4.61 speed and a 124-inch broad jump will help his cause, however. Bell may be a seventh-round selection without a conventional role, but his tools and versatility should keep him on the radar in the later rounds of dynasty drafts.

6m agoThe Ravens selected Samac in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 228th overall.
Samac (6-foor-4, 307 pounds) had to start for a struggling Michigan State offensive line in his first two seasons before getting partially benched in his third year, only to regain his starting role and excel in his fourth and fifth seasons. His early-career struggles give cause to suspect that Samac's late-career resurgence was largely or mostly a product of the age advantage he had at that point, but if he can keep repeating the theme of slow but steady improvement then he could have a developmental future in the NFL.

Devonshire marks the third secondary player drafted by the Raiders on Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Primarily a zone corner with Pittsburgh the past two seasons, the 23-year-old proved to be a capable ballhawk tallying seven interceptions in the past two seasons. Expect Devonshire to provide depth for the Raiders' secondary.

Harden joins the Cleveland secondary from South Dakota where he was a 28-game starter over four seasons. This could be a nice value as the industry consensus had Harden graded as a fifth-round prospect. A corner, Harden checks in at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds with 4.50 speed who hunts the ball in the air with 26 career pass breakups. His quickest path to playing time will be as a nickel corner.

Anthony had to walk on at Shepherd and Liberty before getting a chance to play one season at Mississippi, and he managed to parlay that into becoming an NFL draft pick. Heartening as his story might be, Anthony mostly has the profile of an NFL special teamer. He played safety for Mississippi but at 6-feet, 195 pounds he's built more like a corner. The Bengals might try to develop him as a slot/safety tweener in upcoming years.

5m agoCruz isn't in Pittsburgh's lineup Saturday against the Giants after tweaking his ankle during Friday's game, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Cruz hurt his ankle after sliding into third base during the ninth inning of Friday's game, and it is apparently bothering him enough to warrant a day off Saturday. While he recovers, Alika Williams will start at shortstop and bat ninth.

Hamstring tightness forced Estrada out of Wednesday's game against the Mets and prevented him from starting Friday, but it seems to no longer be a problem heading into Saturday's contest. The 28-year-old has gone 4-for-16 with two RBI and three runs scored across his last five games.

Ramirez has started in each of the Rays' last four games, going 4-for-16 with two runs and a stolen base over that span. With Ramirez out of the lineup, Isaac Paredes will shift over to DH for Saturday's game, while Austin Shenton draws the start at first base with Yandy Diaz sitting due to a left pinky injury.

40m agoImaging on Cobb's right shoulder came back negative Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Cobb was pulled off his throwing progression a few days ago after experiencing soreness in his shoulder, but he doesn't appear to be dealing with any structural damage. The 36-year-old veteran was moved to the 60-day IL last Saturday as he continues to work his way back from an offseason hip procedure, and he's also battled elbow problems during his rehab process. He will be eligible to return beginning May 27, though it's unclear whether or not he will be ready to go by then.

Hakanpaa is likely not an option for Saturday's Game 3 or Monday's Game 4, and if the Stars don't win one of those games, their season is over. Hakanpaa's continued absence will keep Nils Lundkvist in the lineup on the third pairing. Hakanpaa can be considered out indefinitely until he resumes practicing with the team.

Sergachev was previously ruled out for the entire first round, so this news is a huge surprise. However, Tampa Bay is down 3-0 in the series, so if the defenseman didn't come back now, then it might have been too late. He had two goals, 19 points, 36 hits and 70 blocks in 34 regular-season appearances. While Sergachev typically serves in a top-four capacity, his minutes might be limited in his first contest since February 7.

Vasilevskiy has gone 0-3 this postseason, surrendering nine goals on 94 shots (.904 save percentage). The Lightning need a victory Saturday to avoid a four-game sweep, and the team should get a boost from having Mikhail Sergachev (leg) back in the lineup.

Brenden Dillon WPG DJets' Brenden Dillon: Questionable for Sunday
2h agoDillon didn't receive any muscle or tendon damage as a result of the skate cut to his hand, which occurred during a scrum at the end of Friday's 6-2 loss to Colorado in Game 3. Although it's great news that he didn't suffer a more serious injury, the 33-year-old defenseman did require stitches and remains questionable for Game 4 versus the Avalanche on Sunday, Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press reports Saturday.
Dillon has three assists, four PIM, 12 hits and six blocks while averaging 21:04 of ice time across three playoff contests this year. He also accumulated eight goals, 20 points, 92 PIM, 241 hits and 111 blocks in 77 regular-season outings. If Dillon is forced to miss any action due to the injury, then Logan Stanley will likely draw into the lineup.

Derek Forbort BOS DBruins' Derek Forbort: Removed from LTIR
3h agoForbort (undisclosed) was activated from long-term injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.
Forbort sat out the final 20 games of the regular season and Boston's first three playoff contests. He will be an option to play in Game 4 against Toronto on Saturday, but it wouldn't be surprising if he served as a healthy scratch. The 32-year-old blueliner earned four assists, 22 shots on goal, 65 blocked shots and 68 hits in 35 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign.
