  • Kingsley Suamataia 2005 OT
Chiefs' Kingsley Suamataia: Links up with Super Bowl champs
    2m ago

The Chiefs selected Suamataia in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 63rd overall.

The BYU product started full seasons at right and left tackle in Provo, showing versatility to be plugged in at either spot. Suamataia is regarded as a good athlete with the requisite size to stay at tackle in the NFL. The Chiefs have Jawaan Taylor and Wanya Morris as their starting tackles, and with Morris playing just 323 snaps last season, it's possible Suamataia will compete for the starting job protecting Patrick Mahomes' blind side as early as this year.

  • Cole Bishop 2005 S
Bills' Cole Bishop: Buffalo bound in second round
    7m ago

The Bills selected Bishop in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 60th overall.

Bishop has big shoes to fill as the Bills attempt to replace both of their longtime standout safeties (Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde), and it won't be easy to imitate their high level of play over the years. With that said, coach Sean McDermott is a scholar of defensive backs, and there's no doubt his coaching helped maximize both Poyer and Hyde. What makes Bishop especially interesting is that, unlike Poyer and Hyde, he's a big-time athlete. At 6-foot-2, 206 pounds, the Utah standout logged a 4.45-second 40-yard dash in addition to a 39-inch vertical. The challenge for McDermott will be to harness Bishop's superior athleticism and transform the rookie into the technicians both Poyer and Hyde developed into. Bishop could soon establish a major presence both on the field and in IDP fantasy formats.

  • Ennis Rakestraw Jr. 2005 CB
Lions' Ennis Rakestraw: On to the Motor City
    8m ago

The Lions selected Rakestraw in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 61st overall.

This is a Dan Campbell-style pick, as Rakestraw is an extremely hard-nosed defensive back who doesn't rely on his athleticism to be an asset in the secondary. Aggressiveness and toughness help him as a tackler as well. Rakestraw is on the smaller side at 5-foot-11 and 183 pounds with 4.51 speed, though the film still kept him on the second-round radar. The Lions now have a young and tough secondary with Terrion Arnold and Brian Branch as recent additions over the last two drafts.

Packers' Javon Bullard: Green Bay nabs in second round
    12m ago

The Packers selected Bullard in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 58th overall.

Though listed as a safety, Bullard can almost certainly play slot corner and might even be able to line up on the boundary occasionally. The Georgia standout might be heavy for a corner at 5-foot-11, 198 pounds, but his 4.47-second 40-yard dash time is above average even by cornerback standards. Both Bullard and free-agent pickup Xavier McKinney are capable of switching between safety and man-coverage tasks without necessarily tipping off the offense, adding further means of deception for Green Bay's defense.

  • Blake Fisher 2005 OT
Texans' Blake Fisher: O-Line depth for Stroud in Houston
    14m ago

The Texans selected Fisher in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 59th overall.

The Texans have an impressive tackle duo on paper in Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard, but that pairing missed a combined 13 games last season. Getting a quality depth piece who can develop into a starter when needed is a shrewd pick by Houston. Fisher is the lesser known of the Notre Dame tackles in this class behind Joe Alt, but he is talented. At 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds with above-average athleticism and anchor strength, Fisher can hold his own on the perimeter. Fisher started 27 games for the Irish at right tackle, and that will likely be his role in Houston down the road.

  • Marshawn Kneeland 2005 DL
Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland: Second-round pickup for Dallas
    18m ago

The Cowboys selected Kneeland in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 56th overall.

Kneeland (6-foot-3, 267 pounds) once played on the same line as fellow second-round pick Braden Fiske when the two attended Western Michigan, but Fiske transferred to Florida State in 2023 while Kneeland remained up north. Though very toolsy (4.75-second 40-yard dash, 35.5-inch vertical jump, 7.02-second three-cone drill), Kneeland's production never quite took off at Western Michigan the way you would expect of an athlete like him playing in the MAC. Kneeland will likely begin his career as a depth player for Dallas due to the presence of Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence and Sam Williams.

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Likely won't return when eligible
    16m ago

General manager Justin Hollander said Friday that Crawford (oblique) likely won't be activated from the injured list when he's eligible May 5, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Crawford was placed on the injured list Thursday with a Grade 1 oblique strain -- the least severe type of strain -- though it appears the 29-year-old shortstop is still facing an extended absence. Hollander didn't provide an exact timeline for Crawford's return, but a 2-to-3 week absence seems to be the best possible scenario.

  • Alex Cobb SF SP
Giants' Alex Cobb: Pauses throwing program
    2h ago

Cobb (hip/elbow/shoulder) has been held back from throwing for the last few days due to soreness in his right shoulder, and he is set to see a team doctor Friday night, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.comreports.

Cobb was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 20 to give him more time to recover from his multiple ailments. He underwent left hip surgery in the offseason and was progressing through his rehab assignment following spring training, but he has suffered another setback with right shoulder soreness this time. Cobb's visit with the team doctor Friday night should give him and the Giants a better idea of the next steps forward in his rehab schedule.

Yankees' Jasson Dominguez: Throwing from 135 feet
    2h ago

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Dominguez (elbow) has increased his throwing distance to 135 feet, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Dominguez continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery from last September, and Boone noted that the 21-year-old is "a few weeks" away from playing in a minor-league rehab game. Dominguez appeared in eight games with the Yankees last season, going 8-for-31 with four home runs and seven RBI over that span.

  • Kyle Nicolas PIT RP
Pirates' Kyle Nicolas: Recalled by Pittsburgh
    3h ago

The Pirates recalled Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Nicolas ended the 2023 season as part of the Pirates' bullpen. He struggled in his four outings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven over 5.1 frames. Nicolas has looked better in Triple-A this season, posting a 0.84 ERA and 2.06 WHIP over 10.2 innings, and he'll get another shot in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The move corresponds with Ryder Ryan being optioned by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Not starting Friday
    3h ago

Estrada (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Estrada went 0-for-2 in Wednesday's game against the Mets before being pulled due to left hamstring tightness. The Giants had their off day Thursday, but the 28-year-old will sit out for at least one more game while managing his injury. Tyler Fitzgerald will start at second base Friday and bat eighth against Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester.

Timberwolves' Kyle Anderson: Available to play

Anderson (hip) is available for Friday's Game 3 versus the Suns, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.

Fantasy managers should exercise caution before plugging Anderson into lineups, as the forward didn't touch the floor despite being cleared to play in Game 2. It remains to be seen if he'll rejoin the rotation for Game 3.

Bucks' Khris Middleton: Shines with 40-point double-double
    27m ago

Middleton recorded 42 points (16-29 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds and five assists over 41 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Middleton did all he could to help lead Milwaukee to an overtime victory, including hitting the game-tying shot at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime and also tying the game late in overtime, but his 40-point double-double was spoiled in a losing effort. Middleton led all players in Friday's contest in scoring while ending as one of two Bucks with 10 or more rebounds to go along with a handful of assists in a well-rounded outing. If Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) remains out in Game 4, look for Middleton to continue to provide a lift to Milwaukee offensively in the quarterfinals series.

Bucks' Damian Lillard: Nears 30 points despite injury
    27m ago

Lillard posted 28 points (6-20 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 12-12 FT), eight assists, three steals and one rebound over 45 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Despite leaving Friday's game briefly with a knee injury, Lillard finished the Game 3 contest while leading all Bucks players in assists and ending two points shy of the 30-point mark to provide a boost offensively in a losing effort. Lillard, who was perfect from the free-throw line to go along with a team-high-tying mark from three, has posted at least 28 points in all three games of the quarterfinals. It will be worth monitoring Lillard's status ahead of Game 4 and if he has an issues with his left knee that limits his availability.

  • Bobby Portis MIL PF
Bucks' Bobby Portis: Owns glass in double-double showing
    28m ago

Portis finished with 17 points (7-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 18 rebounds, one block and one steal over 44 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Portis dominated the boards in Friday's contest, leading all players in rebounds while finishing as one of two Bucks with a double-double in a losing effort in overtime. Portis has stepped in nicely while Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) continuing to miss time, recording a double-double in all three games in the quarterfinals thus far. Portis will continue to remain in the starting lineup until Antetokounmpo is able to return, but will become a key player off of Milwaukee's bench if the two-time MVP does come back for Game 4 or at some point in the series against Indiana.

Doncic briefly left Friday's Game 3 versus the Clippers with 3:01 remaining in the first quarter with an apparent right knee issue, but returned with 12 seconds to play in the quarter, Justin Russo of the 'Clip & Roll' podcast reports.

Doncic had a significant limp when he checked out of the game and went to the back. He put a brace on his right knee when he came back to the bench, but quickly removed it before checking back into the game.

Haliburton tallied 18 points (8-22 FG, 1-12 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 16 assists, 10 rebounds and one block over 46 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime win over Milwaukee in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Haliburton did a little bit of everything for Indiana in an overtime victory to break a series tie, including hitting the game-winning shot with 1.6 seconds remaining to put a cap on an impressive triple-double performance. Despite struggling from three, Haliburton led all players in Friday's contest in assists while leading the Pacers in rebounds and ending two points shy of the 20-point mark. Haliburton recorded his first triple-double of the postseason so far, tallying at least 10 points and 10 dimes in two games in the quarterfinals.

Edmonton ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per game in the regular season, so the Oilers are likely to continue to give the veteran goaltender trouble, especially because Talbot's been floundering for a while now.
